Description
A lightweight cream mask with horse chestnut, thyme and cucumber extracts and phytic acid.
These breakouts are easy to recognise: deep, often painful blemishes that appear on the chin and along the jawline, returning at approximately the same time each month. Their development follows a familiar pattern: during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, progesterone predominates while oestrogen levels fall. In response to these hormonal fluctuations, the sebaceous glands may produce more sebum, which becomes thicker and can clog the pores.
Bacteria then contribute to the process, and another inflammatory lesion begins to develop on the lower third of the face. Aggressively drying these blemishes is ineffective: the skin becomes irritated, red and more vulnerable, while deep-seated breakouts continue to return. This mask takes a different approach by reducing excess oiliness and visible redness without stripping the skin of moisture.
Despite its creamy consistency, the texture is surprisingly lightweight. It spreads easily, provides a pleasant cooling sensation and has a subtle herbal fragrance. A significant amount of the mask is absorbed within 10–15 minutes. Unlike conventional drying masks, it does not leave the skin feeling tight; instead, the skin feels refreshed and firmer. Suitable for normal, oily and combination skin prone to hormonal breakouts, including adult skin.
Redness and swelling around an inflamed blemish are associated with a local response in the small blood vessels. Horse chestnut contains aescin, a compound known for supporting capillary integrity. It helps swelling subside more quickly, reduces the appearance of redness around blemishes and makes inflammatory lesions less noticeable. The tannins in horse chestnut provide an astringent, firming effect, leaving the skin feeling more toned and pores appearing less visible.
Thyme provides antiseptic support by helping inhibit the growth of bacteria that can turn a clogged pore into a new inflammatory lesion. Cucumber extract refreshes and cools the skin while relieving sensations of heat in inflamed areas.
Phytic acid is one of the gentlest acids used in skincare. Its relatively large molecular structure limits penetration, allowing it to act primarily on the skin’s surface, where it is generally well tolerated even by sensitive skin. Its role in this formula is supportive: it helps reduce excess shine and prevent sebum from clogging the pores.

Directions for use
Apply an even layer to cleansed facial skin, extending to the neck and décolleté if desired. After 10–15 minutes, remove any product that has not been absorbed.

Hormonal breakouts tend to follow a cycle, and you can use this predictability to your advantage. Begin applying the mask a few days before breakouts usually appear, two to three times a week, rather than waiting for a flare-up. Apply a thin layer at night in place of your usual cream. If inflammatory lesions are already active, Anti-Akne Active Gel may be applied directly to individual blemishes. Remember that the mask addresses the visible manifestations on the skin, while the underlying hormonal cause should be assessed and managed by a physician.
